Thrive is running Gardening for Good Health sessions at Saltwell Park, Gateshead and Team Valley, Gateshead from 27 June to 20 September 2016.
These will be very practical sessions with no exams or tests and assume no prior knowledge of gardening; all safety equipment as necessary will be provided.
The sessions will cover: (but subject to change to accommodate individuals capabilities and the weather)
Introduction to food growing
Growing in pots, containers and raised beds
Seed sowing, soil preparation and testing
Planting out, potting on, weeding and maintenance
Identifying pests and diseases.
Basic cooking skills.
Opportunities for working and learning about pond gardens, wildlife gardens, summer bedding, perennials and many more
Larger scale working in the park (in particular the Bird Feeding Garden and the Garden of Reflection)
Information on creating garden spaces in the home.
Opportunity to meet and socialise with others.
The sessions are:
Mondays – Saltwell park 27 June to 19 September 2016 Time 10.00am to 2.30pm
Tuesdays – Marquis Way Day Centre 28 June to 20 September 2016 Time 10.00am to 2.30pm
